Fertility treatment

Fertility treatment is an area of particular interest to me and I have seen many successful outcomes. Acupuncture can be very effective at treating couples who are having difficulty conceiving and it can also be used alongside IVF treatment, and has been proven to greatly increase the chances of a successful outcome.

There can be many reasons why couples are having difficulty conceiving. It may be due to negative lifestyle factors, stress, irregular periods, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, hormonal imbalances, infrequent sexual intercourse, poor sperm quality and many other reasons.

Acupuncture can be a very effective treatment for many of these conditions. Therefore when the patient comes along for the initial consultation, either individually or as a couple, there is a lot to be taken into consideration when deciding upon the best treatment plan to bring about a successful result. Sometimes the patient will also be advised to make some lifestyle adjustments.

Acupuncture alongside IVF treatment is a little different. It is best to start having acupuncture at least 4-6 weeks prior to starting the IVF treatment. During the various stages of the IVF treatment there are certain ‘key stages’ when the timing of an acupuncture treatment is important, so as to increase the chances of success.

It is important to remember that having fertility treatment can be rather a roller-coaster ride of emotions! Acupuncture does help support the spirit, particularly when waiting to know whether pregnant or not; and also gives support when things don’t go according to plan.
